Community Strategic Plan

City of Parramatta has endorsed the Community Strategic Plan 2018-2038: Butbutt Yura Barra Ngurra. Developed on behalf of our community and based on your feedback, the plan identifies your priorities and aspirations for the next 20 years, and provides a roadmap for how we will get there.

Butbutt Yura Barra Ngurra means ‘the heart of the people of eel country’ in the Darug language. This title acknowledges Parramatta’s ongoing connection to the Traditional Owners and Custodians of the land and waters of Parramatta, and recognises that our entire community is the living, beating heart of the City of Parramatta.

Our Community Strategic Plan looks at the period 2018 – 2038. It was first developed in 2018, and will be reviewed again following the next ordinary election of Councillors in 2020.

How the Plan was Developed

Our Community Strategic Plan is built around six key goals, which were developed following extensive consultation with our community:

  1. Fair - We can all benefit from the opportunities our City offers
  2. Accessible - We can all get to where we want to go
  3. Green - We care for and enjoy our environment
  4. Welcoming - We celebrate culture and diversity - past, present and future
  5. Thriving - We benefit from having a thriving CBD and local centres
  6. Innovative - We collaborate and champion new ideas to create a better future

Timeline of Community Consultation

2016

In 2016, we consulted with over 9000 community members about your vision and priorities for Parramatta’s future. In December 2016, the Statement of Vision and Priorities was endorsed by Council.

July 2017

In July 2017, we consulted with over 1000 community members and stakeholders via an online survey and a community workshop. The Big Conversation explored the challenges, opportunities and key priorities for our City's future.

November 2017

In November 2017, we consulted with over 1400 community members via a series of pop-up kiosks and an online survey regarding the set of draft strategic objectives and strategies for the Community Strategic Plan. We also held a workshop with key stakeholders who will help deliver the strategies.

April 2018 - May 2018

In April – May 2018, the draft Community Strategic Plan was placed on public exhibition for 28 days, and the final Community Strategic Plan was endorsed by Council on 25 June 2018. The plan will be reviewed again in 2020.
