Keeping children safe in the Library

Child protection is paramount to City of Parramatta Libraries.

Unsupervised children are at risk in any public place, including public libraries and the online environment.

Within City of Parramatta Libraries children who are under twelve (12) years of age must be supervised by a parent/guardian/carer who is eighteen years of age or older (18).

Parents/guardians/carers are responsible for their child’s use of the Internet and other online resources on either the library’s computers or the parent/ guardian/child’s personal devices in line with the Children in the Library Guidelines.

Should library staff become aware of an unattended child, a notification is made to the Police.

Read with redsee

Redsee the Readasaurus is the mascot of Paint Parra REaD, a community literacy strategy which aims to promote the importance of reading to, talking to, singing to and rhyming with children from birth.

To support this initiative, Parramatta Libraries provides regular children’s sessions to encourage children and their parents and caregivers to read to their children from birth.
